Had a great meal on Tuesday 16th. March 2004, service first rate, meal first rate. The hotel is first rate, as a film star once said, "I`LL BE BACK" ( Well I mean "WE".) great time, thank you all. Bill & Brenda Lacey. Hucknall, Nottingham.
I have visited the Ellerby Hotel twice, both at lunch time and I have enjoyed super meals on both occasions. The web site accurately reflects the hotel and I must say helps one to decide where to stay, it is my intention to spend a holiday in the area and I shall certainly attempt to stay at the Ellerby Hotel, indeed I have promised my wife we shall do so. This is a good web site.
I, along with works colleagues, have been coming to The Ellerby for some years now. Our annual festive pilgrimage is always made more special by the good food, friendly staff and comfortable environment. Hope to see you for some years to come !!
"We have just returned from a stay at the ellerby and i feel that i must express how pleased i was with my stay!our room was fantastic. We had a lovely sofa in our room which was great just to sit down on and relax. My daughter had her own little room, and at 16, she felt was great as she had her own privacy!the food was amazing!i've never seen my daughters eat so well. Breakfast was fantastic!we didn't need anything else untill tea! and finally the staff were so lovely! we had the pleasure of looking around all the rooms and we got looked after so well! thankyou so much for our wonderful stay! we shall most definitly be returning!"
Whereas I concur with all of the comments posted on this notice board, and congratulate the management and staff for making our visits to the Ellerby most pleasurable, I have one point to make regarding the meals. We, (and others who have visited with us ) have found the rich gravy rather too thick and dark and especially when proffered with the lighter meats. Would it not be possible to have the option of a lighter gravy alongside the rich, for which I think there would be a considerable demand ? Alan Dennis, Middlesbrough.
We ate at the hotel twice whilst on holiday (staying in nearby HINDERWELL, RECOMENDED BY OUR HOSTS)and found the meals beautiful. Our young daughter liked the children;s menu - "proper chicken and veggies" she commented. We found the staff very friendly and would certainly like to stay at the hotel in the near future. When we stay at Port Mulgrave we always visit the Ellerby Hotel for a meal in the restaurant the food is fantastic and very reasonable for the quality you are made to feel very welcome and relaxed We wish that we had The Ellerby Hotel in Derby we would be there every week Thankyou Martin and Geraldine Kirkland

Apologies for the delay in providing our comments but it slipped our minds My wife and I stayed in one of the three superior rooms for a period of three nights as part of the 3 for 2 offer back in February of this year Everything was efficient from the initial meeting at reception throught to us leaving three days later Nothing was a problem to the staff and any request made was attended to immediately The room was amazing and very luxurious The food was out of this world We had dinner in the restaurant on all three nights and we tried something different each time without disappointment Fish meat pies curry everything was 100 per cent If the speciality potato side dish is available then you must try it crushed potatoes pepperoni and cream naughty but very moorish My only complaint that this perfect stay was over far too soon Check this gem of a location out as soon as possible Mr and Mrs Ware Birmingham

Ideal for a special family occasion. Seventeen of us ranging from 4yrs to 70 plus stayed overnight on 16th May 2009 having an excellent meal, bed and breakfast. Without exception the staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were allocated with thought for our needs and were without fault. Well done. Al and Marj Dennis and Family

My Wife and I spent 3 wonderful Days in the North York Moors in July 09. We had 4 superb nights in the Ellerby hotel which we used as our base, the room we had was excellent (Superior double), the staff friendly and very helpful. The food from the breakfast to dinner in the Restaurant was fantastic and plentiful (try the fillet stake). Many Thanks Dave and Eileen Barmby

I have visited the Ellerby Hotel on numerous occasions for the Christmas Fayre Menu and can quite happily say that the service was fantastic, very friendly and in a timely manner and the food was delicious. Hoping to book up again for this Christmas. Would highly recommend.
Pity we only had the one night this time, there will be more. The disabled facilities are second to none and made my stay very enjoyable. I wanted for nothing and the food was just great, add some friendly staff and here is the ideal venue to rest and relax. See you again Alan and Marion
Spent a very peaceful 2 nights with you in room 5 as a returning customer to your homely abode. Rooms were clean and Food as per usual Top Notch Standard. Will be returning for a longer spell in 2010 as my wife and I have not visited every place we wish to see and visit around the area. I visited you for a long weekend on 1st November 2009 along with a friend. Just returned from another short relaxing break at the Ellerby our home from home hotel everything was first class as usual all the staff (we class as friends)are warm kind and helpfull good food and hospitality so good we keep returning several times a year. We were recommend the Ellerby Hotel by a friend as we were able to bring our dog with us. We had a thoroughly delightful time the room was great and the food wonderful. We shall certainly come again. Thanks once more for a lovely time.
Stayed Bank Hol May 31st with my husband and 2 small children. The staff were extremely welcoming and totally put my 5 year old daughter at ease. She thought the room was amazing. The breakfast was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be staying again - cant wait to see you soon

Good Morning, i called you on Sunday regarding my wife and daughter being ill after lunch on Saturday, chicken being the only common denominator. Mark Cornforth called me to say you were trying to contact me, my apologies I should have left you my mobile number, not the home. I am please to say both are now OK, my Mother gave us some pills my father uses for his Colitis and they seem to have done the trick. Its strange as my 2 year old Grandaughter had the childrens chicken meal and was fine, possibly it was one chicken breast divided into two as we had the smaller portions. many thanks for your concern and taking the matter seriously, we certainly will not stop eating at the Ellerby. best regards Lewis Jorgensen.
Recently returned from a lovely couple of days at the Ellerby. it really is a wonderful little place to have as a base for exploring the north Yorkshire moors. visited whitby which was goth weekend. certainly interesting. The staff really make this place and they are all so very friendly and cant do enough for you. George on the bar is a real character so watch out for him and say hello. he along with the others makes you feel so welcome. its great to see local staff these days. We will be back in the new year. thank you all. Carol and Bill

Had a great sunday lunch on the 11th of november, Good food and the service was brilliant although we only saw the boy who brought our food out one time which was a shame as he was very polite and well spoken, but the frount of house waitress was very helpfull. Defently going to return.

Been visiting your hotel since your father had it and afterwards. Still a lovely place but the furnishings are letting you down and the menu has been the same for years. We are not against you at all but see a steady decline. PLEASE WAKE UP and see what is going on with your decor. Pillows and cushions on beds are disgusting even though the cleanliness is good the decor has become very lacking. Do not fall behind your family has worked far too hard to get where it was when your father left the bar. A friendly greeting is just not enough these days WAKE UP.
